Moving across the US with a small car!

After a series of seemingly small inconsequential decisions, I've found myself needing to move across the US. I don't have a ton of stuff, but more than will fit in my Fit alone. Surely I can tow a small trailer with my small car?

I found a light 4x8 Harbor Freight Trailer on craigslist for a reasonable price (more than new price! But they're out of stock everywhere, and the used trailer was already assembled, plated, and registered.).

The trailer needed lights and its plate mounted. A day of work sorted that out -

Add some side rails, and load it up with spent shipping crates to hold all my junk -

This might just work!

Loaded up the morning of my departure. The back is squatting pretty hard, but it's not on the bump stops.

Most of the climbing on a drive across the country is across the Sierras. I figured if I could make it up that pass, the rest of the trip would be a breeze.

And it did it! 3rd gear, 45 mph, blasting the heat. Taking a break halfway up -

Nevada was easy, it's mostly flat. And beautiful high desert, just as I remembered.

And into Utah!

Well, I stopped taking pictures then. But other than the climb out of Salt Lake City, and a few other grades along the way, it's mostly flat. 65 mph, 24-24 mpg depending on conditions. The car didn't skip a beat!

I owe it a cake.
